Multi Grade Filter
Multi Grade Filter (MGF) – High-Efficiency Water Filtration
A Multi Grade Filter (MGF) is a highly efficient, cost-effective water filtration system designed to remove suspended solids, turbidity, and particulate matter from water. Ideal for pre-treatment and polishing applications, MGFs are widely used across industries, commercial complexes, and residential communities to improve water quality before it enters sensitive systems like RO units, UV disinfection, or process lines.
Built with a layered bed of graded media—including coarse gravel, coarse and fine sand, and optionally anthracite MGFs provide deep filtration and longer service cycles with minimal maintenance.
How a Multi Grade Filter Works
The MGF works on the principle of depth filtration. As water passes through different layers of media arranged in a descending order of particle size from coarse to fine—the suspended solids and impurities are trapped within the voids of the media bed.
- The top layer traps larger particles like sand, silt, and debris.
- Middle layers capture medium-sized particles.
- Bottom fine layers remove fine sediments and turbidity.
Over time, as the filter collects impurities, the pressure drop across the system increases. When a certain pressure differential is reached, a backwash cycle is initiated to clean the media bed. Backwashing involves reversing the flow of water to dislodge trapped particles, restoring the filter to its optimal state.
